Africa Climate Week
Organized by UN Climate Change (UNFCCC) and hosted by Ethiopia the Second Africa Climate Week took place in Addis Ababa. It served as a continental platform to discuss practical solutions and foster collaboration for Africa's climate resilience and green economic development. The Second Africa Climate Summit had a theme of "Accelerating Global Climate Solutions: Financing for Africa's Resilient and Green Development".
The event brought together African leaders, policymakers, youth, civil society, private sector, women, communities and global partners to accelerate solutions for a resilient and green future. And spotlighted two strategic pillars: showcasing Africa-led Climate Solutions and unlocking climate finance. The key thematic areas included nature-based solutions, renewable energy, sustainable food systems, e-mobility, green cities, climate finance, green investment and indigenous knowledge in order to change the narrative of Africa as not only as a frontline region of climate impacts, but as a powerhouse of global climate solutions.
The Climate Heritage Network Secretariat –Africa and Arab States Region held a side event at Africa Climate Week representing one of the five regions of the Network. Andrew Potts, Founder of CHN explained “The culture events at Africa Climate Summit: I joined the second one, which featured an impressive array of ministers & mayors, artists & librarians & more. Thanks to CHN members ICOMOS, IFLA & ICLEI on great content & congratulations to the CHN Africa region for coordinating this tour de force in Addis Ababa! As Monica Mensah Danquah said, culture is central not peripheral to climate action!”
