A healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity
Stockholm+50

On June 2-3, 2022, an international environmental meeting will be held in Stockholm, Sweden to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first United Nations conference on the human environment – the 1972 Stockholm Conference. It is a historic convening where the world’s environment ministers will reflect on the successes and shortcomings of international environmental governance over the last half-century which witnessed a nuclear ban treaty, global cooperation to save the ozone, the world's first global plastics treaty.

Anchored in the Decade of Action, under the theme “Stockholm+50: a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity,” the conference will focus on accelerating a green recovery that leads to sustainable and green economies, more jobs, and a healthy planet for all, where no one is left behind. This high-level meeting will follow months of consultations and discussions with individuals, communities, organizations and governments around the world, which has focused on green recovery transition spending1

By recognizing the importance of multilateralism in tackling the Earth’s triple planetary crisis – climate, nature, and pollution – Stockholm+50 aims to act as a springboard to accelerate the implementation of the UN Decade of Action to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals, including the 2030 Agenda, Paris Agreement on climate change, the post-2020 global Biodiversity Framework, and encourage the adoption of green post-COVID-19 recovery plans.

Two artists Selva Ozelli and Gunsu Saracoglu join Stockholm+50 with their art shows as associated events: https://www.stockholm50.global/events.

Reef Dwellers by Selva Ozelli

Reef Dwellers has been endorsed by UN Ocean Decade and celebrates the role of the oceans in our everyday life and inspires action to protect reefs which occupy only 0.1 per cent of the global sea surfaces. But more than 25 per cent of marine biodiversity is supported by them.

Perfect Balance by Gunsu Saracoglu

Explains the chaos created by the human desire to dominate every field from past to present. Our roots are in nature, as the natural structure of nature is destroyed, this series tries to draw attention to the natural texture and harmony in nature by creating textures.
